History

The Northern Territory Land Corporation Act was introduced in 1986 by the Northern Territory Government.

The Northern Territory Land Corporation was established to acquire, hold and manage identified land assets for the development of the Northern Territory.

NT Land Corporation was entrusted with land to be held for future strategic use. This included land formerly set aside in the first years of Self Government, under the Territory Development Act 1978.

Under the Native Title Act 1993, all NT Land Corporation land which is held in common with Traditional Owners is subject to native title rights in the same manner as Crown land.

Since its establishment, the NT Land Corporation has worked collaboratively with government land use objectives to successfully deliver projects that bring long-term benefits to all Territorians.
